At least 26 dead: Worst Mass Shooting in History of Texas (Updated) + (Video)


The fatal shooting occurred this Sunday at 11:30 a.m. local time. This terrible attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, a small town in Wilson County (400 people population).

Updated (2:30 a.m. EST Nov.10):

  • Devin Kelley claimed he bought the animals on Craiglist to practice his shooting skills.
  • The shooter escaped mental health facility in 2012, after he was taken for threatening his commanders with firearms.
  • Kelley has written anti-religious and pro-violence posts on Facebook, including attachment of a photo of a gun he used during the shooting.
  • 10 of the injured remain in critical condition, officials will provide $6,500 to families of the victims.
  • Conspiracy theories about Devin Kelley to be a part of antifa movement have been widely spreading on the Internet. However,  law enforcement officials stated that there was no connection between Kelley and antifa organizations. It is still marked as popular’ on Twitter.
  • Before the shooting, Kelley has sent a threatening message to his mother-in-law, who also regularly attends the church. She was not inside the church that day.
  • Kelley was shot by a resident, then he called his father and said “I don’t think I am going to make it” and shot himself.
  • Joann Ward and his daughters, Brooke Ward (5-year old) and Emily Garza (7-year old), were gunned down during the shooting.
  • Several members of the family were killed: Crystal Holcombe, Marc Daniel Holcombe, Karla Holcombe and Bryan Holcombe (including an infant child, 17 months – Noah Holcombe).
  • In the BBC news video, the local citizens state that about 40 people attend the church on a regular basis. Thus, a half of the church members are gone.
  • Nexter has found a new photo of Devin Patrick Kelley, the shooter.
  • No one has not claimed responsibility for Texas mass shooting yet.
  • The shooter was found dead in the car by the police officers. It remains unknown if Kelley died from a gunshot wound (suicide) or he was injured by the local citizens.




The most recent facts 

Texas officials state at least 26 people are dead and about 20 are wounded and transferred to hospital. One more died in hospital. Local citizens from 5 to 72 years were found among the victims, including a 14-year old daughter of the First Baptist Church’s pastor, Annabelle Pomeroy.

According to the Texas of Public Safety, there are three crimes scenes: inside the church, outside the church and the location of the suspect’s vehicle.

Texas Health Care organization tweeted almost a half of wounded are children:

SThe sheriff said they still didn’t have the names of the victims, however, the suspected shooter has been identified. His motive is unknown.

The suspect

Devin Patrick Kelley, a 26-year old member of the US Air Force, bought the Ruger AR-556 rifle in Academy Sports & Outdoors store in San Antonio. As he was purchasing the gun, he didn’t state in the check paperwork that he had been involved in the criminal actions before. The fact the US Air Force allowed a criminal to buy a gun is shocking.

However, it isn’t entirely true. According to BBC news, Kelley served a year in prison for his wife and child assault in 2014.

Freeman Martin, the regional director for the Texas Department of Public Safety, stated Devin Kelley parked his car at a gas station near the First Baptist Church church. Then Kelley went to the church and began shooting from the outside. He was continuously shooting as he was entering the building.

World Leaders Reaction

Trump entitled this attack as “an act of evil” and encouraged Americans to stay together in this dark times, “Americans do what we do best: we pull together”.

Moreover, Donald Trump says it isn’t a gun problem, “This is a mental health problem at the highest level. It’s a very, very sad event.”

The tragic shooting in Texas has come after the Las Vegas mass attack on festival with 58 dead and about 100 people wounded. These are the deadliest mass shootings in the recent Texas history.
