Applications of Micro Linear Actuators


The micro linear actuators manufactured under the brand Progressive Automations can be used for industrial purposes. They replace hydraulic and pneumatic systems and allow normal operation in adverse environmental conditions. Stable performance and automation can be achieved for applications in various fields.


The PA linear actuators can also be used in home furniture automation. Armchairs and leisure beds with built-in linear actuators can have various adjustments that make their use much better. Researchers have proposed the technological process for guiding 3D printing of micro soft pneumatic actuators. Soft robots are a class of robotic systems made of flexible materials and able to safely adapt to aggressive environments. In the last decade, their development has grown rapidly and produced a variety of model options that have different sizes – from meters to submicron.

In particular, small, soft millimeter-sized robots are of practical interest since they can be used as a group of miniature actuators driven by pneumatic pressure. They are also well-suited for navigating in confined spaces and controlling small objects.

But reducing soft pneumatic robots to millimeter size makes their parameters to be a complicated aim to achieve. Having a complex design, such robots require great delicacy in manufacturing using traditional methods – casting and soft lithography. Although new 3D printing technologies, such as digital light processing (DLP), in theory, provide high resolution, working with cavities and channels of such a small size without clogging is still difficult. Successful examples of 3D printing of miniature soft pneumatic robots are really rare.

From this, we can see that the implementation of linear actuator technology knows no limits and they can be installed to perform linear motion automation in almost any kind of environment. Linear motion automation can be of extreme benefit in various cases and situations: from a simple machine-building to space exploration missions where multifunctional robots are needed, from assembly lines, where automated or semi-automated robots do the bigger part of all the job to DIY projects, where a craftsman without excellent knowledge in automation can create his own masterpiece using the ready-made technology to provide his masterpiece with a certain level of linear motion automation.

Taking into account all of the above-mentioned, micro linear actuators technology is now gaining more and more popularity (such as 12vactuators) while being implemented in those industrial areas where a few years ago it was merely impossible to use them. At the same time, the development of linear motion automation creates more prospects for promising projects and lays the solid ground for future automations.
