Is GrayKey dangerous?

Police across US have are using GrayKey, an unlocker, to discover the undisclosed information about the smartphone’s user. It’s currently used by the police in 5 states and 5 federal agencies.

However, Apple is planning to release a new feature to iOS that will cut off all communication through the USB port if they have not been unlocked in the past hour. So, basically, the police will be able to use unlocker, but in a short period of time.

The feature’s name is “USB Restricted Mode,” and it was present in developer betas for both iOS 12 and iOS 11.4.1, and is ready to be released publicly.

An Apple representative stated:

“We’re constantly strengthening the security protections in every Apple product to help customers defend against hackers, identity thieves, and intrusions into their personal data. We have the greatest respect for law enforcement, and we don’t design our security improvements to frustrate their efforts to do their jobs.”
