“And Now Our Watch Has Ended” – GoT Cast’s Thank You and Goodbye + Reaction to the Finale

Well, the journey has come to an end and it’s time to say goodbye to all our beloved characters from Game of Thrones TV-series.

Nexter.org gathered all the goodbye, thank you and reaction messages and comments left by the GoT cast.

Emilia Clarke

Daenerys Targaryen aka Emilia Clarke posted a goodbye message for the fans and the production team:

“Finding the words to write this post has left me overwhelmed with how much I want to say but how small words feel in comparison to what this show and Dany have meant to me.
The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart.

“I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice.

“Game of Thrones has shaped me as a woman, as an actor and as a human being. I just wish my darling dad was here now to see how far we’ve flown. But to you, dear kind magical fans, I owe you so much thanks, for your steady gaze at what we’ve made and what I’ve done with a character that was already in the hearts of many before I slipped on the platinum wig of dreams. Without you there is no us. And now our watch has ended.”

Kit Harington

Kit Harington commented on his reaction to the season’s finale.

“I think it’s going to divide,” Kit Harington told Entertainment Weekly, “But if you track her story all the way back, she does some terrible things. She crucifies people. She burns people alive. This has been building. So, we have to say to the audience: ‘You’re in denial about this woman as well. You knew something was wrong. You’re culpable, you cheered her on.’ ”

Pedro Pascal’s comment on the finale is just brilliant.

“Shut up, it was perfect,” says the star of Game of Thrones that portrayed Oberyn Martell.

Isaac Wright

Isaac Hempstead Wright aka Brandon Stark left a comment in an article for Hollywood Reporter.

“The phenomenon of Thrones is not something I am ever likely to experience again in my life. The level of hysteria and speculation around it is unprecedented. When we shot those final scenes of the Starks on the bay in King’s Landing, we were told not to leave our hotel room in Croatia for fear of giving something away.

“When we got into the cars to go to set, we were smothered in blankets to obscure our faces and costumes. HBO also booked out every single room with a possible view of what we were shooting so that nobody could take any covert photographs. We were also accompanied by a top security guard who arranged every move we made as though we were Secret Service agents on some mission abroad. Sometimes you had to remind yourself that this is only a TV show.”

Gwendoline Christie

Brienne of Tarth’s thank you note to Game of Thrones: “Playing Brienne of Tarth has redefined the way I look at the world, women and particularly myself. I have never felt so exposed by a character, but happy knowing that those feelings of discomfort were about shaking off convention and embracing strength and authenticity.

“This photograph was taken on my very last day saying goodbye to my friend Ciaran, he worked on the shown from the beginning as an AD and was the first person I met on ‘Game of Thrones’ – he treated me with respect, kindness and great humour every single day. I shall miss seeing his smiling face in the misty dawn mornings, warmly welcoming me to set. I shall miss everyone that gave so much of themselves helping to create ‘Game of Thrones’; it was a privilege to work with such talented creatives, cast and crew.

“I am just so very grateful for this phenomenal opportunity and the incredible support that you’ve all given me, all your kind words and cheer – it truly means a great deal to have been part of something so many of us have loved. My heart aches with how much I will miss Ser Brienne of Tarth. But what she has inspired I will take with me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”

Sophie Turner

One of the cast, Sophie Turner that portrayed Sansa Stark, also shared her emotions in the caption to this photo.

“Sansa, Thank you for teaching me resilience, bravery and what true strength really is. Thank you teaching me to be kind and patient and to lead with love. I grew up with you. I fell in love with you at 13 and now 10 years on.. at 23 I leave you behind, but I will never leave behind what you’ve taught me.

“To the show and the incredible people who make it, thank you for giving me the best life and drama lessons I could have ever asked for. Without you I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Thank you for giving me this chance all those years ago. And finally to the fans.

“Thank you for falling in love with these characters and supporting this show right through till the end. I’ll miss this more than anything.”

John Bradley

John Bradley aka Samwell Tarly wrote a note about the first days of Game of Thrones.

“A journey that, for me, started at 10am on Monday 19th of July 2010. I know this because recently I found my rehearsal and prep schedule for season 1, week 1. This was given to me when I landed in Belfast for the first time, weeks before we even started shooting.

“Listed here is the rehearsal where I first met Kit, and the first time I wore the costume that’s seen me through 8 seasons. I’m glad I kept this. I met so many people that week who have come to mean so much to me. Back then we couldn’t have known the journey we’d go on together. I wouldn’t swap that experience, or those people, for the world. Enjoy the episode and thanks for everything. ”
