In a nutshell about the innovation

European Union decided to take on a higher level of security by installing an artificial intelligence-powered system called iBorderCtrl, which is built to question travelers and to determine if they’re lying.

“One of the main goals of the project is to design and implement a comprehensive system that adopts mobility concepts and consists of a two-stage-procedure, designed to reduce cost and time spent per traveller at the border crossing station,” is written on their official website.

iBorderCtrl specified its goals below:

The trial will take place at four border crossing points in Hungary, Greece and Latvia and will last for six months. During this period, the travelers will have to show their passport, visa, amount money just like they would at the normal board checking.

The most nervous part would be answering questions asked by a computer-generated border guard to a webcam. In case, the person is lying, they will be flagged. If everything’s okay, they will receive QR code and will be taken biometric data.

For now, the testing of iBorderCtrl’s system provided 76%, but the developers are sure that it might increase.

“We’re employing existing and proven — as well as novel ones — to empower border agents to increase the accuracy and efficiency of border checks,” project coordinator George Boultadakis said.

“iBorderCtrl’s system will collect data that will move beyond biometrics and on to biomarkers of deceit.”
