Accessories That Will Change Your Living Room Game

193

Decorating your home and putting together a killer living room is about more than simply moving furniture into an open space. While the right sofa, shelves, coffee table and sideboards certainly contribute towards the feeling of a room, it’s the accessories that can really inject a room with personality and warmth. If you’re new to the furnishing and design game and are unsure which accessories you should be including in your living room, then this article is for you. Below, we’re going to examine and discuss in detail which accessories you need to elevate your living room to the next level, and really make it feel like a home.

Plants

Rooms, and especially living rooms, can often feel stiff and somewhat clinical (especially if you simply stock it full of IKEA furniture). A simple, cheap and very effective way of remedying this is to add some plants to the mix. Plants, including small trees and creepers, are wonderful not only for making a room feel more alive, but they add a much-needed dash of color to the mix. With so many varieties and cultivars of plants out there, you can certainly find ones that speak to your inner horticulturist. Keep in mind that you’re going to be limited by the type of home you have and the amount of sunlight you have access to. Homes with massive south facing windows are going to be able to accommodate very different plants to apartments without much direct sunlight at all. If you do live in a flat, check out this list of apartment plants.

A beautiful rug

In the eternal words of the Dude from the Big Lebowski, a rug “really ties the room together.” Truer words may never have been spoken. A choice rug is going to have a dramatic effect on the look and feel of your living room, and massively contribute to its feeling of warmth. While rugs don’t necessarily have to be bright and colorful, they should match the overall aesthetic of the room in order to compliment it. If much of your furniture is beige or neutrally colored, then a Persian rug might just be what you need to really make your room pop. If you have more brightly colored furniture, then a more neutral rug will be better suited.

TV wall bracket

This one may sound a bit random, but there’s some logic to the suggestion. Modern TVs usually come with standardized feet to help them balance correctly. Because of this, they usually have to sit atop some sort of sideboard or stand. Investing in a wall bracket means you can free yourself of ugly TV feet and the need for additional furniture. Ideally you’re going to want a bracket that can swivel and turn in a full range of motion like the models from Vogels. This is especially helpful if your living room isn’t perfectly square or symmetrical, as it means you can swivel your TV to face your sofa when you need it to, and push it flush against the wall when you don’t.
