Check out the tips below to find out about an exciting new visa scheme, the Malta Golden Visa Programme. Whether you are a young investor or a family looking to make a home for yourself, this might just be what you have been looking for.

What are the Requirements?
As with any visa, there are a number of requirements you must meet to be granted it, but don’t panic, the Malta Golden Visa requirements are all beneficial to you!

1. Property requirements

This includes the purchasing of a property situated in South Malta or Gozo for a minimum of €270,000, or €320,000 in any other location within Malta. If anything, this is an investment for your happiness, as living in areas such as Gozo would provide you with a number of exciting experiences including a trip to the Neolithic Ġgantija Temple ruins, tranquil beaches with scuba diving locations, and rural trails for hiking. If purchasing a property isn’t for you, you can opt instead for renting a property in the south of Malta or Gozo at a minimum of €10,000, or €12,000 per annum in any other location in Malta.

2. Investment requirements

This one is simple – all you have to do is make a minimum investment of €250,000 in government bonds. As opposed to making investments in a dodgy business on the brink of collapse, this form of investment is productive.

3. Contribution requirements:

The contribution requirement for a family is a minimum sum of €30,000.

What Do You Need to be Eligible?

To be an eligible applicant for the Malta Golden Visa Programme, you must be 18 or over. To be eligible as a dependent applicant, you must either be a spouse of the leading applicant with the ability to prove the longevity of your relationship, or children, parents and grandparents of the leading applicant.

To ensure only worthy and respectable applicants are allowed to achieve Maltese residency, the Government of Malta are extremely thorough with the application process. First and foremost, eligibility is dependent on a clean criminal record, and this must be verified with the International Criminal Court and other authorities including INTERPOL.

Both leading and dependent applicants must also prove that they are in good health and therefore do not suffer from any infectious diseases or health conditions which would put a strain on the Maltese health system. In reference to income, the leading applicant must be able to declare an annual income of at least €100,000 from outside of Maltese business, or provide evidence for possessing an individual capital of at least €500,000.

How Long Will All This Take?

There is an immediate 2-3-weeks preparation time in which you must prepare the application file which provides information on your criminal record, health condition and income. Supporting documents must also be included that confirm your application answers. A 3-month processing time then takes place. Within this period, your application is checked and confirmed for its validity.

Finally, a 3-month compliance time occurs. Within this time, you must meet all the requirements of the visa, including finding a property to either purchase or rent, investing in government bonds, making your contribution, and purchasing health insurance. Then all that is left to do is pack your bags!

What Are the Benefits?

With such a high level of investment, it is important to know what you will receive in return. After one year’s residency, you gain official citizenship and a Maltese second passport. Subsequently, you are granted with European citizenship which enables you the rights to study, work and live anywhere is the EU.

You deserve to relax. Work can be stressful, and too often we are paid the money we deserve but don’t have the time to spend it. Investing in the Malta Golden Visa Programme will reassure you that you are creating a future for you and your family – a future which will allow you to relax and enjoy your surroundings, far away from the stress of a business meeting in a building block.

Advisory teams can provide you with a more detailed understanding of the visa programmes, guide you through the process of becoming a Maltese resident, and connect you with appropriate real estate advice for finding your ideal property which coincides with the fulfilment of the investment criteria.
