How to survive a tsunami
In 2004, a powerful magnitude 9.1 earthquake off Sumatra island triggered a tsunami that killed 230k people. Check out these five tips on how to manage to survive the tsunami:
- Learn about it in advance. Check if your home, school, or workplace is located in a coastal region or near sea/ocean. Follow TV news or any other media to learn about the potential danger in your area;
- Prepare a safety pack. If a tsunami hits, you’ll need to find all essential items really quickly, so prepare a safety and survival pack beforehand (food, water, and a first aid kit included);
- Make an evacuation plan. Take into account that you can be anywhere at the time of the natural disaster – your homeplace, workplace, school. Develop the plan with multiple safety routes options considering the possibility of an earthquake destroying roads;
