On a Very Special Episode of this lovely TV show, a small child suffocates and dies inside a refrigerator! It actually was supposed to send a message that some parents get tired of their children and abandon them. So, even more traumatizing stuff.

When the kid is found dead, another child was not able to help because he wasn’t paying attention during CPR class, but Punky brings her friend back to life and here’s the happy ending. But not for everyone who watched it and probably still has nightmares.

Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends

The 1984 episode “The Sad Story of Henry” the station controller entombs Henry inside a dark and foreboding tunnel FOREVER AND EVER because he didn’t want to go outside in the rain not to mess up his paint. The episode actually ends with him still inside the tunnel. Sooo, probably, the moral here is – listen to your parents or they will brick you into a tunnel. Great!

Family Ties

In March 1987, NBC aired a special one-hour episode of Family Ties to unexpectedly teach everyone who was hoping to watch something funny and relax, about the horrors of driving drunk. In this episode, Alex’s best friend dies in a drunk driving accident and then they show how Alex deals with this and talks it all over with an off-screen therapist. Uhh, we love sitcoms.

Little House on the Prairie

This was a very nice, wholesome TV show until they made an episode where Albert Ingalls moves to the city and to fit in with the big city in-crowd he becomes a drug addict.

According to Talking Shrimp, they showed him stealing drugs from Doc Baker, going through all the withdrawal symptoms, and you know, all the interesting stuff you expect to see in such a TV show.

Hill Street Blues

In March 1983, a police officer was doing a welfare check in a dark apartment and shot a 5-year-old boy who was playing with a toy gun. Later that year, the world saw an episode of Hill Street Blues entitled “Doris in Wonderland,” which had the same story. Unfortunately, this didn’t help society to understand and prevent this kind of accidental killing and toy guns now look even more like real ones.

M*A*S*H

An episode of M*A*S*H entitled “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen,”  aired on February 1983 and it is about the main character called Hawkeye, who is recovering from a mental breakdown. We see him flashing back to what has started it. He is on a bus and the enemy is nearby so everyone needs to be very quiet not to be discovered.

But there is a woman with a chicken and it is very noisy. So Hawkeye tells her to shut the chicken up and she smothers it. And then it turns out it was not a chicken but a CHILD.

Blackadder

The last episode of Blackadder was aired in November 1989 and entitled “Goodbyeee.” And it was dark. Blackadder and other World War I soldiers were about to be sent to the front lines. And instead of slipping away, as he did in previous episodes, Blackadder joins everybody else and we see them running in slow motion into the chaos of battle. Then there’s some piano music, the battlefield fades into a peaceful field of poppies and chirping birds. What a great way to end a comedy show!

Cagney and Lacey

Cagney and Lacey were one of the most groundbreaking shows of the ’80s because it was about FEMALE cops. Wow. And they were even good at their jobs! Anyway, in 1987 the show aired a two-part Very Special Episode (yay) in which they showed that Cagney was an alcoholic and is now following her father (who passed away) into the alcoholic despair.

Which episode do you find to be the most disturbing one?
