In 2014, a freshman at Arkansas State University called Eaton became the victim of a disastrous decision. A student decided to swing a golf club at football, the club broke and launching half of it through the air, flew nearly three dozen feet and deeply pierced Eaton’s neck.

It left her spine immobilized on her right side, distorted her sense of positioning and impaired her sense of touch. Doctors said she will never be able to walk again. But two years later, she was walking two miles a day and driving.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

It happened in 2015 in Gresham, Oregon. A sleepy driver leaned on a utility pole, shut off power to the area and propelled debris at an unlucky bystander. He got knocked but wasn’t seriously injured.

Meanwhile, the hit power pole snapped, bend numerous other poles 200 yards away and across the street. Electrical wires captured another driver and turned over her vehicle. She also wasn’t seriously hurt as well as the guy who started it all.

In March 2017 Wiley Day Jr.’s went to bed next to his charging iPhone. A very regular situation but he had a dog tag around his neck which got wedged between the charger and the extension cord. Sometime later, he woke up to the sound of his niece hitting his smoking bed.

And even though was actually burning up and could hear his own heartbeat, Day managed not only remove his electrified necklace but even drive himself to the hospital. In the end, he was left with some significant burns and a torn shoulder.

The mayfly compact

In 2015 a huge (and we really mean it, it was H-U-G-E) swarm of mayflies took over the Veterans Memorial Bridge between Columbia and Wrightsville, Pennsylvania. They invaded vehicles and were even getting in people’s mouths! “We had to close our eyes. We had to swat them away. Even when we got back, it felt like bugs were crawling in you,” Fire Chief Scott Ryno recalled.

For whom the bell tows

In February 2017, the 51-year-old Ian Bowman was helping to ring one of 16 bells at the UK’s Worcester Cathedral when the bell rope snagged his ankle and flipped him upside down. He got pushed against the bell tower floor, got stuck hanging 80 feet in the air and had to wait for the fire department to take him down.

Thankfully, when they came, they successfully took him down. Bowman injured his head, neck and broke his vertebra.

A plane window

In 2007, critical care nurse Chris Fogg was helping to airlift a patient from Idaho to Washington when the window next to him suddenly broke and his limbs became the only barrier between him and the ground 20,000 feet down.

Fortunately, he had enough strength to pull himself back inside the plane. Although, his head had become a blood fountain and all the medical supplies got sucked through the broken window. Despite everything that happened, everyone survived. When they landed, Fogg got 13 stitches and continued his work the next day.

Sinkhole

A 48-year-old woman was driving through Studio City and got into a 20-foot wide sinkhole that formed as she was passing by. She found herself upside-down and 10 feet under the street. The situation got even worse when water began rushing into her car. She couldn’t open the windows, so she forced the door open and climbed atop her vehicle.

Fortunately, the fire department came and rescued her.

Windshield

In 2015, Nicole Bjanes got torpedoed by a turtle as she was driving down a Florida interstate. It turned out that the animal had actually been struck to a different vehicle and then got thrown back through the air.

The reptile pierced Bjanes’ windshield like a huge bullet, ricocheted off the passenger seat and bumped on her dashboard. The woman was not injured except for a few small cuts and the turtle was perfectly fine and got released into a pond.

Which case do you find to be the most bizarre?
