8 Most Bizarre McDonald’s Happy Meal Toys Ever – Wait, Is That a Toothpaste?

203

Oh, remember the time when you were excited to go to McDonald’s and not ashamed of your unhealthy life choices? That was fun. Partially because of the toys you got in a Happy Meal box. But sometimes our favorite fast food restaurant chooses some very strange ones to put in those bags.

Nexter.org prepared you a list of the weirdest Happy Meal toys ever.

E.T. movie posters

In 1985, during E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial first re-release, McDonald’s teamed up with this movie and instead of creating something really cool, they just decided to put a paper poster in a bag of food. Yeah, kids love posters but 1) they were expecting a nice toy, 2) not in a place where it’ll be destroyed by food stains in a second.

Madame Alexander dolls

McDonald’s releases creepy little dead-eyed Madame Alexander dolls in Happy Meals from time to time. And sure, adult collectors love them, but maybe don’t forget that Happy Meals are for kids. Dolls are scary in so many different ways, but these ones have an extra creepy layer.

McDonald’s airport

In 1986 McDonald’s Airport promotion featured some very lame, monochromatic planes and helicopters with the McDonaldLand characters. They were not only super easy to break but you were also supposed to keep the box after you’re done with the meal because it was an airport playset. Can’t wait to play with all that grease!

Ronald McDonald glove puppet

There are warnings on each Happy Meal bag saying not to give a plastic bag to kids but McDonald’s in the ’70s and ’80s ignored all that and created an amazing mini plastic bag with Ronald printed on it, and call it a toy for kids. Nice.

American Idol toys

In 2007 McDonald’s made an attempt to turn American Idol into a cool Happy Meal, which featured a pair of cheap sunglasses, a mini-guitar with no strings, a weird clapping machine, a piece of plastic imitating a microphone headset, a microphone, and something like an iPod that played a few seconds of the American Idol theme.

Toothbrush and toothpaste

What can be better than opening a bag of something you love, anticipating to find a nice toy but instead you find something that reminds you of your nightmares in the dentist’s office? Yeah, toothpaste and a toothbrush in a Happy Meal sound like SO MUCH FUN!

Tickle Feather Sponge

In 1979 when McDonald’s just launched Happy Meal, the toys there were not perfect. One of the popular ones was a strange sponge “toy”  made out of foam and called the Tickle Feather Sponge. The whole point of it was to randomly tickle your “spongeworthy” friends.

Food FUNdamentals

In 1990 McDonald’s thought that instead of adding fruits to their menu they can help kids eat more healthy by creating anthropomorphic Happy Meal toys of food items.

The FoodFUNdamentals series featured an apple called Ruby, a milk carton called Milky, wheat bread sandwich called Otis, a T-Bone steak called Slugger, and an ear of corn called Duncan.

What is the weirdest McDonald’s toy you’ve ever gotten?
