8 False Facts About Game of Thrones We Bet You Believed
George R.R. Martin obviously doesn’t like to make us happy, judging from everything that happens on Game of Thrones. And sometimes we just get super confused. Many fans tend to believe different GoT myths and make wrong assumptions about characters.
Nexter.org prepared you a list of 8 false facts we bet you believed.
The costumes required hours of labor
Source: HBO
Sure, many costumes on Game of Thrones are a pure work of art. Michele Carragher, a principal embroiderer spent 12 hours a day, six days a week just working on the embellishments for the gowns, robes, and tunics. But some of the costumes, like the Night’s Watch robes were simply bought in Australian Ikea.
Melisandre is evil
Source: HBO
Yes, Melisandre did some awful things but does it make her evil? Yes. But not entirely.
She is a complex character who does bad things just because she truly believes they are a sacrifice for a better cause – saving Westeros. Some even consider her to be “the real hero in Game of Thrones.” So, we might not ever agree with her method, but at least the motives are good, right?
The Targaryens once ruled the Seven Kingdoms
Source: HBO
One of Daenerys’ many titles is “Lady Regent of the Seven Kingdoms” but the Targaryens never really ruled the Seven Kingdoms. The first Targaryen to sit on the Iron Throne, Aegon the Conqueror, united the six kingdoms but Dorne didn’t submit to his rule. Later, they allied with the Targaryens through marriage, but that was not a subservience.
So, technically, Daenerys should call herself  “Lady of Six of the Seven Kingdoms, except Dorne.”
White Walkers are not zombies
Source: HBO
Yes, White Walkers look like some mummies and they create the soldiers in the Army of the Dead by raising them from the dead but the White Walkers themselves can’t be undead because they were never really dead in the first place. According to Screen Rant, White Walkers are an ancient race of ice creatures, who were created by the Children of the Forest during a violent ritual.
It’s pronounced Ka-LEE-see
Source: HBO
As far as we all know, it’s not pronounced “Ka-LEE-see.” Right? No. The right way to say it is “CHA-LAY-eh-see.” According to Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the Dothraki language was created by a linguist named David Peterson and he calls the chronic mispronunciation of Khaleesi “a real thorn in my side.” He regrets the spelling he chose but “there’s no way it should be pronounced ‘Ka-LEE-see’ based on the spelling.”
Targaryens are immune to fire
Source: HBO
We saw Daenerys Targaryen walk into her husband’s funeral pyre and emerge as the Unburnt Mother of Dragons, we also saw her emerging from the fiery remains of the temple of the Dosh Khaleen completely unburned, which made us think that Targaryens are immune to fire.
According to Time, George himself said: “The birth of Dany’s dragons was unique, magical, wondrous, a miracle. She is called The Unburnt because she walked into the flames and lived. But her brother sure as hell wasn’t immune to that molten gold.”
Stannis was Melisandre’s puppet
Source: HBO
Melisandre seemed to have a lot of control over the actions of Stannis but which one of them was really in charge? Stannis needed Melisandre to help him win the throne, so in a way, she was his puppet, not the other way around. According to Screen Rant, she really believed he was the Azor Ahai, and she would’ve done anything to help him. Every choice Stannis made was to further his own interests, not Melisandre’s.
Jaime Lannister has always been a villain
Source: HBO
The first time we saw Jaime Lannister he pushed 10-year-old Bran Stark out of a window and that was enough to make us all hate him for quite a long time. But he is not a villain. Yes, he is selfish and arrogant, but he is full of empathy and a moral code at the same time. He’s the Kingslayer but he killed the Mad King to save thousands of men, women, and children and a bad guy won’t do something like this.
