For the fire scene where a hat of one of the robbers was caught on fire they used an illusion called “Pepper’s Ghost”. It involves a large piece of glass which is angled between the viewer and the scene, in front of a booth with a mannequin head in it with a fire on top of it. The glass reflects the flame and it looks like robber’s head is on fire.
