Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy actually used to be a stand-up comedian, who then appeared in comedies, obviously. So when she appeared in a serious drama called Can You Ever Forgive Me? everybody was pretty surprised. She played Lee Israel and was even nominated for an Oscar.

 

Emma Stone

Not that many people remember it now, but Emma started off as a comedic actress. Only after four years of playing “the funny, cute girl”, she appeared in the serious film, The Help. Later, she was nominated for an Oscar for her supporting role in Birdman, and 2 years later she got the “Best Actress” award for her role in La La Land.  

 

Matthew McConaughey

Matthew’s first movies were thrillers but he became famous for his roles in romcoms playing as a sweet guy with a beautiful smile. But in 2001 he was able to prove that he has huge dramatic potential by playing in The Lincoln Lawyer. After this, he was able to work in Interstellar, Dallas Buyers Club, and True Detective.

 

Jonah Hill

Hill played funny, fat guys in comedies for quite a long time and was even nominated for a Teen Choice Award as “Best Comedy Actor” in Superbad.

But later, he showed his full acting potential by taking more serious roles, like He Won’t Get Far on Foot. Today, Hill is trying himself as a director.

 

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock also started as a comedy actress in movies like The Thing Called Love, Religion, Inc., Love Potion No. 9, etc. But her most notable movies were dramas like Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Bird Box, Gravity. She received both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her role in The Blind Side.

 

Ben Stiller

Ben Stiller’s career started with his comedy show on MTV called The Ben Stiller Show. Then he went on to star in such comedies as Meet the Fockers, Duplex, Meet the Parents, and Zoolander (which he also directed).

Later he tried himself in the drama Greenberg but The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was a real breakthrough for him.
